There are many theories about what the name Tarot means, yet none of them traces it back to the most obvious source, Sanskrit language. Sanskrit is the base of every language today, especially European languages, that is why it is called Indo-European. However, Sanskrit has nothing to do with Indo- as it is Phoenician in origin, these people who were the original inhabitant of the Mediterranean, mostly Ancient Greece and Crete. The Phoenicians, known today as the Romani people. Tarot derived from Sanskrit Taras; i.e. voyage, here it is referring to life as a voyage, and how to continue on your journey in life. The other word is Tara, which is translating to asterism, passage, knowledge, communication between man and the universe, the Veda (means Truth, Science), the sacred text and science of the ancient Phoenicians and they were/are hidden away from the world as Romani people or Gypsies. This ancient knowledge was embedded in Tarot and Gypsy cards. Although most of their knowledge is lost, some are hidden, only fragments left for us to learn from.
